The archival recordsof the University was organized for the first time in 1982. The University’s own archives has been running since 1993. The Archives preserves the records related to the former Medical Faculty of the University of Nagyszombat, which became the Medical Faculty of the University of Budapest and that was reorganized in 1951 as an independent medical university (Semmelweis University – SOTE). In consequence of the damages affected the documents, only one series, the register of the graduates have remained completely, which can be traced back to 1770. The publication of the series has been started. Apart from other registers on the students, the documents of the central offices and the personal bequests form the bulk of the records. 520 linear meters of documents (created 1770-1999; classified into 63 fonds) are kept in the Archives. Repertories (published in 2002) assist the research among them. Up to date guides (fonds and material guides, repository guide, registers) can be downloaded from the website of the Archives.

TF-Archives
(Department of the Semmelweis University Archives at the Semmelweis University Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences [TF])

The records of the Faculty were classified, processed for the first time by the staff members of the University Archives of the Eötvös Loránd University in 1987-88. Then the institution received the special collection status. Although due to the integration of the universities, the former archives of the SOTE and the TF were united in the field of structure, both of these collections remained their original place – none of them was moved. Despite that the Faculty stands at the centre of the Department’s sphere of collection, it preserves documents concerned with the National Association of Gymnastics. Thus there are records from the period 1868-1993. The extent of the records is 94 linear meters, classified into 21 fonds. The most of them are registers related to the students and documents of the Financial Office. A guide published in 1999 aids the research in the Department.
